About The Tapes Archive
The Tapes Archive is a home for long-form documentaries about the music, albums and artists that shaped hard rock and heavy metal.
The channel features deep dives into landmark albums — including Black Sabbath’s Sabotage, Master of Reality, Vol. 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath; the five-part series on Van Halen’s 1984; and artist portraits such as The Evolving Mind of Neil Peart. It also includes occasional retrospectives on classic films, including The King of Comedy and Point Blank.
The Tapes Archive is also home to a collection of rare, never-before-heard interviews with Ozzy Osbourne, David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and other icons, recorded during the 1980s and ’90s.
How it started
It began as a podcast — a way to share those never-before-heard interviews straight from the original cassette tapes. Over time it grew into what it is today: long-form documentaries and film retrospectives, with new work landing on YouTube first. Here’s where it started:
Alan Berry — Producer

The Tapes Archive was created by Emmy Award-winning documentarian Alan Berry — independent passion projects produced in his spare time. His film Dead Man’s Line debuted at number 12 on the iTunes chart. Before video production, he owned and operated record stores in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1991 to 2011.
